Sheriff's Volunteers Recognized

On tuesday April 8th, the Sheriff's Volunteer Unit gathered at the county library for an awards ceremony. The Sheriff's Office has 40 volunteers that perform various tasks to assist sheriff's personnel. They range from uniformed patrol, working at the court house to finger printing and computer data entry at the sheriff's office. These men and women give selflessly to the citizens of Transylvania County. They work many special events such as the bike and foot races held each year as well as the festivals. Last year alone they worked 9487 hours. That equates to $181,000.00, figured at minimum wage. This is a huge saving to the tax payers. It takes special people to fill these roles and we are blessed to have them. My hat's off the the Sheriff's Volunteers!
