What We Do
The Court Security Division’s primary function is providing security in and around the Transylvania County Court House and the Transylvania County Administration Building.
About Our Officers
These officers take the safety of our citizens and staff very serious. Officers assigned to our Court House are sworn deputy sheriffs with all the power of arrest. These officers receive specialized training conducted by the U. S. Marshall Service as well as the North Carolina Justice Academy in courtroom security and procedures. These officers also work as bailiff's inside the courtrooms. They open and close court for the presiding judge as well as perform a number of daily tasks.
The Court Security Officers are supervised by a Sergeant. The Court Security Officers provide general security in and around the courtrooms, provide security for judicial officials, provide security for jurors during a jury session of court, call the court sessions to order, call recesses and adjournment of court sessions as directed by the presiding judicial official, take persons into custody per court order or judgment, arrange transportation for prisoners to and from the courtrooms, and assist the general public with court related and other county government questions. The Courthouse Deputies man the Security Check Point at the entrance to the Courthouse.
